Monsignor John J. McSweeney retired on July 18, 2017 as pastor of St. Matthew parish. In gratitude for Monsignor McSweeney’s vision and support of the World Hunger Drive over the last 15 years, the World Hunger Drive was renamed the Monsignor McSweeney World Hunger Drive in his honor. At the 2017 Meal Packing Event, Monsignor was recognized for his vision and support and was presented with a 1008 piece puzzle that was made up of pictures from the World Hunger Drive, including a picture of Monsignor in his hairnet.
At his retirement reception on July 16th, Monsignor received his Spiritual Bouquet. It was a treasure chest full of prayer intentions and beautiful notes from parishioners of all ages.
Monsignor McSweeney World Hunger Outreach Program Endowment Fund – The anonymous donor of the $250,000 donation explained the reasoning behind setting up this endowment: “Under Monsignor McSweeney, St. Matthew World Hunger Drive has served the poor internationally and locally since beginning 14 years ago.
